This handcrafted amber liuli glass statue depicts Shakyamuni Buddha reclining on a lotus-patterned base. Warm translucent glass emphasizes the relaxed posture, robe folds, and calm facial expression.

Meaning & Symbolism

The reclining Buddha recalls the final chapter of Shakyamuni's earthly life. Buddhist accounts place him near Kushinagara, resting on his right side between sala trees after decades of walking, teaching, and gathering a community. His students knew that his death was approaching and were overwhelmed with grief. The Buddha answered their sorrow with the lesson he had taught from the beginning: everything formed by causes will change, so practice with care and diligence.

This is why the image is known as the parinirvana Buddha rather than simply a sleeping figure. The body is leaving the world, yet the face remains composed. The posture transforms an ending into a final teaching on impermanence, showing that calm is not denial of loss but a complete understanding of it.

Amber liuli gives the scene the color of late sunlight. The warm glass gathers around the folds of the robe and thins along the quiet profile, making the figure seem suspended at the edge of day. On a shelf or altar, the statue carries the gravity of a great departure without becoming mournful. Its stillness is the last line of the story.
